3 Bible Passages To Help Children With Bullying

Bullying Must Be Stopped Now!

In a perfect world working as God intended, there would be no bullying, but unfortunately this is not our reality. Children can be bullied as early as pre or elementary school. This meanness can leave them with lasting scars that affect them through the rest of their lives. The strength needed to keep a healthy sense of self and staying positive in the face of bullies can be found in the Bible. We want to break down a few passages you can share with your children when they’re going through these struggles. Our top 3 bible passages to help children with bullying are:

  1. Leviticus 19:18 – “You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am the LORD.”It may be tempting to want to bully back, but this is not what the Lord taught us to do. We will face hardships and meanness throughout our lives, but it’s important to live through His strength and to work to love even those who may treat us poorly.
  2. Romans 12:17 – “Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men.”This message is similar to that of Leviticus 19:18, but it may be somewhat easier for younger children to understand. What it says is that evil, or bad treatment, should never be responded to with bad treatment in return, and that one should respect what is right and good regardless of what the other person may have done or how they made you feel.
  3. 1 John 2:9 – “The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now.”With this passage, children and young people will learn to turn their disdain and anger at their bullies into empathy. Seeing these bullies as being in the darkness, and having not seen the light, can put into perspective how lost they are, and why they may treat others like they do.
