In Studying God’s Word We Find Many Bible Verses For Animal Lovers

Our pets tend to become huge parts of our lives, and furry little members of our own families. From a biblical standpoint, it’s interesting to see that loving, caring for, and respecting animals are also principles laid out by God.  He created us in His image to be their creators and protectors. For animal lovers, hearing “it’s just a dog” or “so what? It’s a cat” can be tough to stomach. You can however find comfort in Bible verses for animal lovers and what God has said about our role as humans and how that pertains to the other creatures on this earth.

“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’” – Genesis 1:26

Right in the opening passages of Genesis, when God is creating man, He lays out our role with animals pretty early on. We humans were created in His image, and we were created to rule over the fish, the birds, and the animals of the planet. What does this ruling refer to? Well, as we are in His image, our ruling over the creatures of the planet should be in this image as well, which would mean to treat these animals with mercy, love, and guidance just as He treats us with the same. Many Bible verses for animal lovers teach us this.

In Job 12:7, we are taught something else about our relationship with animals, and the passage states “But now ask the beasts, and let them teach you; And the birds of the heavens, and let them tell you.” So, not only can we guide and care for animals, but they can teach us quite a bit in return. Through a relationship of mutual respect and love, humans and animals enrich one another’s lives and make each other better in turn.

For animal lovers, there is plenty in the Bible to show that this loving and caring you feel is right in line with what God has planned for man. As the protector and ruler, your love mimics His love just as He loves us, and in turn, humans and animals have plenty to gain from our beautiful friendship!
